The identification card or ID grants you access to a certain business establishment as an employee or visitor. But do you know what kind of card offers you access to not just one, but a host of an unlimited number of businesses as a worthy consumer? You guessed it right, credit cards allow an individual to purchase goods or pay for services without exposing cash!

Credit cards usually come in the form of thin, rectangular, plastic strips and are most commonly referred to as ----- plastic. They feature a magnetic strip at the back portion carrying a unique set of information which can be accessed when a particular card is swiped through a POS terminal or magnetic strip reader.

There are many types of credit cards to choose from. Some do offer excellent value but others may cost you a bit more although they have added special features and the option to earn rewards which may prove quite enticing and helpful if used properly.

One of the main types of credit cards is the charge card. This type of card provides you with an extended purchasing power if you will agree to pay the purchased amount due after each cycle which usually runs between 21 days to one month. Failure to settle the monthly charges will result to finance charges appearing in the succeeding month's credit card bill.

Finance charges can be avoided by paying the credit card balance in full. Paying only the minimum amount due will mean that you will be charged an extra amount computed against the remaining balance which you were not able to settle.

Credit cards give you some sort of a revolving loan which is referred to as the credit limit. The credit limit is the maximum amount you can use to purchase through a particular card. Usually, credit cards have a revolving credit limit. This only means that when you pay for the used portion of the set limit, it will be made available to you again.

Most credit cards can be used to pay for just about anything! That is why they are called general-purpose cards. They can be used in various establishments to purchase apparel in a boutique, pay for lunch at the café, or even acquire cash advances through an automated teller machine (ATM). General-purpose credit cards present the convenience of paying for different types of expenses, ultimately combining them in a single bill. This can help you keep track your purchases and spending, making payment relatively easier.

There are also credit cards which can only be used in specific establishment or for a relatively specific purpose. The gasoline credit card is one of the more famous examples.
